Democratic representatives are actively vying for candidacy in the upcoming primary election in the United States. Many incumbent public figures from last year’s Senate and Assembly in New York State are leading the charge, demonstrating exceptional dedication and engagement. Over the past few days, Bangladeshi American politician, Sir Abu Zafar Mahmood, known for his roles as editor of The Bay Wave and Joy Bangladesh magazines, as well as president of JBTV, has been actively involved in campaigning for Democratic candidates in Jackson Heights and surrounding areas. New York State Assemblymember Jessica Gonzales Rajas took to Northern Boulevard on Saturday to engage with constituents. Mr. Mahmood commended Assemblywoman Jessica Gonzales for her unwavering commitment to her duties, particularly highlighting her initiatives and efforts in healthcare for the people of New York State. He praised her leadership within the assembly and the effectiveness of her team, noting her membership in the State Health Committee. Jessica Gonzales Rajas reiterated her dedication to advocating for healthcare rights for New Yorkers, emphasizing her work in including underserved populations in healthcare initiatives. She expressed solidarity with Sir Abu Zafar Mahmood in their joint efforts to protect the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP).
In another campaign event, prominent Democrat leader Catalina Cruz, serving as a New York State Assemblywoman, rallied support for her candidacy in front of the Jackson Heights post office. She garnered praise for her dedicated service to the communities of Corona, Elmhurst, and Jackson Heights, not only within the Hispanic community but also among Bangladeshi, Nepali, and other ethnic groups. Popular councilman Shekhar Krishnan joined in support, echoing their commitment to defending the CDPAP.
On Sunday, New York State Senator Jessica Ramos campaigned in Jackson Heights, representing areas including Jackson Heights, Corona, and Elmhurst. As chair of the State Senate Labor Committee, she emphasized her gratitude towards the South Asian community for their resilience in the post-COVID recovery efforts. Senator Ramos expressed hope for re-election, promising continued support for her constituents.
Senator Jessica Ramos announced plans to host iftar gatherings for the Muslim community during Ramadan, building on previous efforts to distribute iftar items in mosques. Throughout the campaign, Democratic candidates and leaders extended their congratulations to the newly launched magazines The Bay Wave and Joy Bangladesh, edited by Abu Zafar Mahmud, and expressed anticipation for the upcoming JBTV broadcast. Voting for the Democratic nomination commences on June 25th.
